Yvonne Faye Dempsey

Yvonne Faye Tompkins Dempsey, 73, of Oak Hill, WV passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Mon Health in Morgantown, WV following a long illness.

Yvonne was born May, 20, 1950 at home, Oak Hill, WV.  She was the daughter of the late Aubrey Ossington Tompkins, Jr., and the late Faye Ethel Bowyer Tompkins and the granddaughter of the late Charles W. & Annice Crawford Bowyer, whom she loved spending time with along with her sister and brother.

She is in preceded in death by her sister, Ester Faye Bowyer Hinte, (2010), her husband, Donald J. Dempsey (2011), sister-in-law, Diane Gill Rice (2018).

Yvonne was a graduate of Collins High School in 1969.  After high school, she worked at the Skyline Drive-In as a waitress, Oak Hill bus terminal/taxi service as a dispatcher and she retired from Value Plus as a vender checker/clerk.  She was a member of the Scarbro United Methodist Church, where she served as the financial secretary and in other capacities.  She was also a member of the Scarbro United Methodist Women’s Group and loved attending church with her family and friends.

She is survived and will be sadly missed by her son, Richie L. Acevedo of Oak Hill, her daughter, Cindy L. Acevedo-Vaughn (Jason) of Florida; her grandchildren, Anthony M. Stines (Hannah) of Oak Hill, Quintin Alexander Acevedo of Pax, Madison Mackenzie Acevedo of Oak Hill, and great-grandson, Elijah (Eli) Dominic Stines of Oak Hill.

She is also survived by her brother, Earl Rice (Violet) of Virginia; nephew, Derryl Hinte of Oak Hill; nieces, Sheryl Hinte Harris (Tony) of Oak Hill, and Regina Rice-Hughes (Shawn) of Virginia; her first great nephew, Keith M. Elkins whom she enjoyed spending time with as often as she could, along with several other great nieces and great, great nieces and nephews; cousins, Deloras Bowyer Bobbitt, Victoria (Vikki) Bowyer Bailey and Lesley (Jeanie) Bowyer Morris, with whom she enjoyed spending family time with in later years. Her dear friend, Karen Proctor Anderson of New York and friend, Scotty Foster of Oak Hill.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Scarbro United Methodist Church, Scarbro with Pastor David Altizer officiating.

A private interment will be held at a later date.  

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Plateau Medical Center Emergency Department, Dr. Clinton Curtis and the staff of Mon Health ICU Department for the care and concern for Yvonne.
