Wanda Leigh Tyree Thompson, 90 years young of Paint Creek Road, Scarbro, WV left this earth on Friday, November 19, 2021 from Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV.
Wanda was born at home in Mossy, WV on September 13, 1931 to the late William Blaine Tyree and Tinis Rinehart Tyree Hall.
In 1950 she entered Kanawha Valley Hospital's School of Nursing in Charleston, WV. She graduated with her Registered Nurse Degree in 1953 and continued her career in nursing until 2009 when she retired at the age of 78 from Genesis Hilltop Center as a part-time nursing supervisor for 15 years. Wanda had also worked in various hospitals, physicians offices, home health, OH-9 public health and the 6th floor nursing home care unit at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Beckley during her 56 year nursing career.
Wanda enjoyed activities such as ceramics, crafting, sewing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She looked forward to attending her 4 Sisters Tea Party that was held annually until the passing of her youngest sister Donna Sue. She especially enjoyed working in her yard and was often seen removing weeds, and raking, and bagging leaves. A practice she continued until September 2021 when her physical health prevented her from it.
In addition to her parents, Wanda is preceded in death by her former husband, Riley Thompson; infant great-granddaughter, Hayleigh Hinkle; brothers, Forrest Wayne Hall, Billy Keith Tyree, and William Blaine Tyree, Jr.; sisters, Donna Christensen, Deleda Jane Bell, and Rose Waldron; brothers-in-law, Alvin C. Waldron, Roger Christensen and L.V. Thompson; sisters-in-law, Margaret Hall and Shirley Tyree; nephews, Keith Tyree, Waynie Hall, and Stephen Tyree; niece Elizabeth Thompson.
Surviving family members include her daughter, Patricia Elaine (Jess) Bolen of Mount Hope, WV; sons, Riley Murel Thompson II (Michele of New Market, TN, and William Lee Thompson of Woodbridge, VA; granddaughters, Elaine (Kris) Rasnic and Jessica Bolen of Mount Hope, Malina Thompson of Hilltop, WV, Jenna Thompson of Kodak, TN; great-grandsons, Billy Smith III of Mount Hope, Jess and Drake Rasnic of Mount Hope, Waylon and Mason Webb of Beckwith and Bryson Ashmore of Kodak, TN; great grand-daughters, Hannah Hinkle and Kayleigh Hunt of Kodak, TN; brothers, Nick (Joyce) Hall and Joey Hall of Mossy; Brother-in-law, Estel L. (Barbara) Thompson of Jacksonville, FL; sisters-in-law, Sandra Hall of East Kingston, Jean Tyree of Ohio and Trilby Thompson of East Bank; along with many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Pastor Greg Swisher officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park., Oak Hill, WV. Family member will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation for friends will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
