Surrounded by his family, Victor Joseph Romage, 80, of Mount Hope, WV died Monday, January 12, 2004, at his home after a short illness.
He was born December 7, 1923 at Layland, WV, a son of the late Marion and Ella McClosky Romage. Victor was the first of nine children to be born in the United States. His parents were from the Galicia region of Poland near Krakow.
He was a retired route salesman for 7 Up/ Dr, Pepper Bottling Plant for 32 years. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill and the Knights of Columbus, Council #10347. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Edward and one sister, Shirley.
Of Polish heritage, Vic was a WV native who lived his values of Catholic faith, hard work, loyalty to family and friends, and service of country. He provided well for his family and set very high standards for them, always rejoicing in their accomplishments. Vic loved music, especially polkas and waltzes, and was an avid Mountaineer and Thundering Herd fan. He continued serving long after retirement, helping the less fortunate in his community. He loved God, his family and his country.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Helen Raycher Romage of Mount Hope;
Thirteen children: Victoria Ransom and her husband, Richard of Columbia, MD; Victor Romage, Jr. and his wife, Maggie of Gandeeville, WV; John Romage of Mount Hope; Elizabeth Ryan and her husband, Terrence of Stafford, VA; Mark Romage and his wife, Cathy of Mount Hope; David Romage and his wife, Duwan of Mount Hope; Frank Romage and his wife, Patrice of Oak Hill; George Romage of Weirton, WV; Mary Greeson and her husband, Steve of Clemmons, NC; Daniel Romage and his wife, Tammy of Mechanicsburg, PA; Jennifer Pino and her husband, Mark of Oak Hill; Jason Romage of Martinsburg, WV; and Wendy Romage of Oak Hill.
Twenty three Grandchildren: Matthew Ransom and his wife, Julie of Chapel Hill, NC; Rebecca Ransom of Ithaca, NY; Rachel Ransom of Asheville, NC; Megan Ransom, Andrew Ransom and Thomas Ransom, all of Columbia, MD; Eric Romage, Joshua Romage, and Natasha Romage, all of:Huntington, WV; Joey Ryan and Katy Ryan, both of Stafford, VA; Michael Sayer Romage and Rigby Romage, both of Mount Hope; Marchelle Romage and Heather Romage, both of Oak Hill; Emily Greeson and Micah Greeson, both of Clemmons, NC; Christopher Romage, Nikolas Romage, Sara Romage and Jamieson Romage, all of Mechanicsburg, PA; Emma Pino and Molly Pino, both of Oak Hill. One step grandson, Matthew Groves and his wife, Colleen of Hudson, Ohio, and one step qreat grandson, Quinn Groves of Hudson, Ohio.
Five sisters, Millie Herc of Novi, Michigan; Sonia Grushka of Upper Marlboro, MD; Linda Palmore and Libbie Romage, both of Richmond, VA; and Sophie Waldron of Melvindale, Michigan. One brother, Herbert Romage of New Carlisle, Ohio.
SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 15, 2004, at 10:00 AM at
SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill with Father John McDonough as celebrant. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley where military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #3110, Oak Hill. His eight sons will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call from 6 :00 PM until 8 :00 PM at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill on Wednesday evening, January 14, 2004, with Christian Wake Service will be held at 6 :00 PM Wednesday evening there.
