Thomas "Tom" Dean McKinney

Thomas "Tom" Dean McKinney, 58, of Basin, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2025 at Select Specialty Hospital, Charleston. 

Born July 29, 1967, at Mullens, he was the son of Ada McKinney and the late Edward McKinney. 

Tom was a hardworking man with a strong heart. For 20 years he worked in the coal mines, a career he took great pride in. He believed in hard work, showing up for others, and doing what needed to be done. Those who knew him will remember his strength, his grit, and the deep respect he had for the people he worked with. 

Outside of work, Tom enjoyed coon hunting and spending time outdoors. Tom enjoyed telling stories from the mines and jokes, often laughing, picking with his children, and keeping up with the latest sporting events. 

Thomas is preceded in death by his father, Edward McKinney; sister, Peggy McKinney; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Ada McKinney; his children, Samantha McKinney, Stephanie McKinney, Tommy McKinney, and Noah McKinney; aunts, uncles, and several cousins. Tom has a special place in his heart for his aunt, Linda Blevins and uncle, Michael Blevins. 

A private graveside service will be held.
