Shirley Jean Livengood Gallimore, born on July 7th, 1937, in Friendsville, Maryland, was reunited with her husband, Allen Gallimore, and was lifted peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May 2nd, 2025. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion and unwavering faith in God. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by her.
Shirley was born to Ray C. Livengood and Florence Edith Umberson. She grew up on a farm and knew the meaning of work. She was a homemaker and a pastor’s wife. The memories of her amazing cooking skills testify of her pride in fixing homemade noodles, buckwheat cakes and sausage, homemade custard pies and homemade biscuits and gravy. She faithfully stood by her husband as together they pastored several churches; the longest pastorate was at the Oak Hill Gospel Tabernacle for 35 years.
Shirley was actively involved in working with Children’s Church and VBS for many years. She loved to sing, watch birds, work with flowers, go to yard sales and Goodwill and keep her house in order. Her most favorite pastime was being with her children and spouses, and her grandchildren. Shirley loved to go to church and camp meeting; she loved hearing the Word of God preached; her prayers could reach the very heart of God.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Evangeline Bickford, of Oak Hill and her son, David Gallimore and his wife Tammy, of Augusta, Georgia. She has two grandchildren, Jonathan Bickford of Oak Hill and Matthew Bickford and his wife Brittany of Oak Hill. She loved spending time with her 6 grand cats, Gizmo, Chanel, CoCo, Sadie, Abby and Martin, who she called Pointer. She is also survived by a brother, James Livengood and wife Jean, of Bruceton Mills, West Virginia as well as many nieces and nephews.
Shirley is preceded in death by the love of her life, George Allen Gallimore, her parents, Ray and Florence Livengood, one brother, Don Allen Livengood, son-in-law, Douglas Bickford and many other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, at the Oak Hill Gospel Tabernacle on Oyler Ave. in Oak Hill. The Service will be at 2:00 P.M. with Visitation at 1:00 and Interment will be at High Lawn Memorial Park. The Celebration of Life Service will be officiated by Rev. David Gallimore.
Although Shirley’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. My her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all we do.
