Roy Lee Collins, 79, of Clear Creek, WV, went to be with the Lord and his baby girl, Brenda on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Roy was born on November 27, 1944 at Clear Creek, to the late Jesse and Mable Collins-Williams and his stepfather, Delbert Williams.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Lee collins; his siblings, Bob, Bill, Paul, Jesse, Jr. (Bub), infant Freddy Collins, Wayne Williams, Jean Peterson, Mary (Doll) Tolliver, and his mother and father-in-law, Isom and Arbutus Williams.
Roy was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Roy is survived by his loving wife, Diann Collins; his daughters, Lisa (Matt) England and Tena (Jeff) Jarrell; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Rachel, and London England, Andrea (Joey) Cook, Luke (Emilie) Jenkins, Kaylee Dunbar, Parker and Presley Jarrell; and one great granddaughter, Holland Cook; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Collins and Sally Williams; a brother-in-law, Dennie Williams. He was "Uncle Roy" to numerous nieces and nephews. All of Roy's grandchildren affectionately referred to him as "Pa-Paw" and he affectionately referred to all his granddaughter as his "number one". Roy's grandkids were his world.
Roy served his country with honor for seven years in the U.S. Army, notably as a paratrooper in the 173rd Airborne Brigade during the Vietnam War. He was awarded numerous decorations, medals, badges, and campaign ribbons for his bravery and heroic acts.
Roy worked for the U.S. Steel Mill in Lorain, Ohio. He was a member of UMWA and retired from Maple Meadow Mining as an underground miner with 25 years of service.
Roy enjoyed working on his family tree, camping, and riding his ATV's with his family and friends, listening to gospel music, traveling, going out to eat, and most of all spending time with his family. Roy was always active and on the go.
Roy had three special friends whom he considered brothers. They all proudly served in the United States Military; Ronnie Deal, Jerry Doss, and Donald Oakley who passed just five days prior to Roy. Roy went out with his "brothers" once a week to eat and they took countless trips together. They always had a smile on their faces and a funny story to tell of their adventures together.
