Ross Earl Painter, 83, of Maple Fork, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at his residence with his family by his side.
Born March 3, 1943, at Edwight, he was the son of the late Robert "Bob" and Ruth (Logan) Painter.
Ross was a former electrician in the coal mining industry retiring with 35 years of service and was a member of UMWA. After retiring he became a jack of all trades. He was a member of the Maple Fork Baptist Church. In his leisure, he enjoyed farming and taking care of his cattle and he especially enjoyed road trips with his granddaughter, Alexis.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Suzie Holston; an infant brother; and one grandson, Derrick Ross McMillion.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret (Winegar) Painter of Maple Fork; his children, Sandy Gill (Shannon) of Maple Fork and Frank McMillion (Kim) of Maple Fork; special granddaughter and his best friend, Alexis Suzann Gill of Maple Fork; grandson, Tyler McMillion (Chelsey) of Maple Fork; three great grandchildren, Abigail Ross McMillion of Maple Fork, Charlie Rae McMillion of Hurricane, and Jonathan Tyler McMillion of Hurricane; one brother, Butch Painter (Sequita) of Maple Fork; granddaughter-in-law, Nikki McMillion of Hurricane; and several in-laws, Sam, Bill, Erma, and Grace.
Services will be 1:00 P.M., Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the Maple Fork Baptist Church Robert Barley Gym with Rev. Jim Bower officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at the Maple Fork Baptist Church Robert Barley Gym and one hour prior to services Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Gill, David Gill, Tyler McMillion, Joe Jackson, Joe Voliski, and John Runyon.
The family would like to thank Dr. El-Harake for his care for Ross. He also leaves behind multiple "side chicks" who were his caregivers.
