Oak Hill resident Richard L. Martin Sr., 79, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 18th, 2020, at the Bowers Hospice House comforted by family.
Services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020, at Tyree Funeral Home with visitation 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, service at 1:00pm with Pastor Greg Swisher officiating and burial immediately following at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, WV.
Mr. Martin was born January. 10, 1941, in Weston, WV to the late Roy and Beulah Cochran Martin. Richard could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He was the Boy Scout Master of Troop 186 in Alderson, WV, and the boxing coach for the Alderson boxing team that produced a heavyweight Golden Glove Boxing Champion. Mr. Martin was also a Mason, Shriner, Knights Templar, and a U.S. Navy Veteran.
He worked many years for the WV Department of Highways, Gates Engineering, Stafford Consultants and others before retiring as City Manager of Oak Hill, WV.
Preceding him in death were his proud “Papa” Boone Cochran, sister Judy Hertz and his wonderful wife of 44 years Kate. He is survived by a sister Marsha Ray of Alderson, WV, son Richard L Martin Jr of Lewisburg WV, daughter Deborah Kincaid (Ken) of Davidson, NC, daughter Cara Martin of Oak Hill, WV and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchild and a great grandchild.
