Obituary

Rebecca Angela Williams-Wood, 66, of Pax relocated to a higher plane of life on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at the Bowers Hospice House.

Becky, as she was known to those close to her was born September 14, 1959 in Nuremberg, Germany to Claredon and Inge (Grill) Williams.

Becky spent her early childhood in Germany and Delaware before her father moved the family to Pax, West Virginia. She loved growing up in the Pax area close to her extended family and making many friends there over the years. After graduating from Mount Hope High School in 1977, she continued her education at Beckley College, receiving an Associate in Arts degree. A few years later she returned to college and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Concord University. Becky then embarked on careers as a teacher, tutor, and librarian. She would go over and above teaching and caring for every student placed in her life. Her desire to continue learning and impart that knowledge, as well as her life experience was what drove her to be a teacher. If you had the opportunity to be around Becky, and hear her many stories, you would realize that her life was filled with adventure, curiosity, and lots of fun. Becky loved to travel visiting Germany many times as well as four other countries and 38 states.

Becky loved nature and was an advocate for recycling and protecting the environment. As a Master Gardener she took a special interest in her flower and vegetable gardens as well as helping maintain beehives for pollination. Her artistic and creative sides were evident in her teaching career as well as in and around her home. Her love of animals carried throughout her life, beginning with her dogs, ponies, and horses followed later with cats, an iguana, and an anole named Gus. Her last pet was her favorite, Stormy, a ragdoll cat that comforted and amused her during some difficult times.

Becky is survived by Thomas (Tom) Wood, her husband of 38 years. She is also survived by her mother, Inge of Beckley; her sister, Julia K. Williams of Beckley; her niece, Bailee Russell of Pax; her father-in-law, Thomas L. Wood of Beaver; her close friend for nearly four decades Shirley Ewing of Pax; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

As per her wishes, Becky will be cremated and a graveside service will be conducted by Pastor Dwayne Williams on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 2:00 PM as the Dock Lively Cemetery located at Long Branch near Pax, West Virginia.

Psalms 121

1: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh my help.

2: My help cometh from the LORD, Which made heaven and earth.

3: He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4; Behold, he that keepeth Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5; The LORD is thy keeper: The LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6; The sun shall not smite thee by day, Nor the moon by night.

7; The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul.

8; The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in From this time forth, and even for evermore.

"Faith is the response to Grace, which is always there."
