Obituary

Ray F. Slayton, 83, of Ansted passed away on June 1, 2026 surrounded by family. Ray lived a long, full life marked by loyalty and conviction. He was known for his straightforward nature, his humor, hard work, and his loyalty to all he loved.

Ray is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Slayton, and his daughters Stacey Slayton, Tracey Hall (Dewayne), Tammy Slayton (John Paul Morrison), and Stacey McVey. He was a proud grandfather to Nicholas (Taylor), Wesley, Noah (Sydney), Kathryn (Troy), Caden, Rachel, John Paul II, Bree, Payton, and Bode. Ray was also blessed with great‑grandchildren who brought him immense joy including Alaska, Milo, Wilder, and Whitley. Ray is also survived by his sister-in-law Sandra Brown (TJ).

He was preceded in death by his mother Blanche Murphy, mother and father-in-law Florence and Joe Combs, and sisters Juanita Foster and Gladys Withrow.

He will be remembered for his strong spirit, his stories, and the love he carried for his family. Those who knew him will miss him deeply and cherish the memories he leaves behind.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday June 7th at the Ansted Wesleyan Church formally known as United Methodist Church from 2pm-4pm in Ansted, WV. His family invites anyone who knew Ray and wants to celebrate and share stories. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV in Ray’s honor and memory. His family would like to say a special thank you to the Bowers Hospice House and the wonderful nurses who took care of him.
