Obituary

Pastor James "Jim" Elmore. age 65, of Oak Hill, WV, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 22, 1960 in Oak Hill, WV, Jim was the beloved son of Tom and Pep Elmore and son-in-law of Edith and the late Johnnie Taylor.

Jim was a 1978 graduate of Oak Hill High School and served in the WV Army National Guard. Jim became a Certified Camp Director through WVU Extension Services and served the youth of Fayette County for many years by leading 4-H camps. Campers loved "Bubba" and looked forward to watching him jump over the campfire each evening.

Jim began his career with Kroger at the age of 16 and dedicated the next 25 years to the company. Through hard work and commitment, he served in multiple departments before ultimately retiring as a valued member of the management team. He held several other positions with Beckley Newspapers, selling insurance policies, and Value Plus grocery store before going to work with the Fayette County DHHR. He served there for 18 years, compassionately helping individuals and families achieve great independence, stability, and meaningful employment.

Jim completed the Ministerial Internship Program and became an Ordained Bishop through the Church of God. Along with his wife Kim, he faithfully pastored the Page Church of God for 35 years. He dedicated his life to serving the spiritual and personal needs of his church family, offering guidance, comfort, and prayer to all. Whether from the pulpit, in hospital rooms, or around family tables, Jim faithfully ministered to people in every season of life.

Jim was a avid WVU, Washington Redskins, and Cincinnati Reds fan who rarely missed a game. He took great pride in watching his grandchildren compete in their sports and perform in music programs, always showing up to cheer them on and celebrate their accomplishments. Whether in the stands, at a recital, or gathered at home watching a game together, these moments created cherished memories and a lasting bond that his family will forever treasure.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Kim on Oak Hill; daughter, Shana Clay (Morgan) and grandsons, Nathaniel and Andrew, of Charleston; parents, Tom and Pep Elmore of Dothan, AL; mother-in-law, Edith Taylor of Mt. Carbon; sister, Tricha Altman (Byron) of Abington, VA; brother-in-law, John Taylor (Amy), of Mt. Carbon; nieces and nephews, Michael, JT, Jett, Kate, Brittni; many great-nieces and great-nephews; several aunts and uncles; and a huge number of extended family members and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Johnnie Taylor; and nephew, Adam Altmann.

While our hearts mourn this loss, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and take comfort in knowing that Jim is now resting in the presence if the Lord.

"This is the day which the Lord hath made; We will rejoice and be glad in it"----- Psalms 118:24
