Obituary

Mitchell Lee Whitt, 83, of Mullens, WV, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.

Born on July 21, 1942, Mitch was the son of the late Herbert and Virginia Dickerson Whitt. He was preceded in death just three weeks ago by his wife of 36 years, Norma Jean McKinney Whitt. He was also preceded by his only brother, William David Whitt.

Mitch was a 1961 graduate of Herndon High School and retired from The United Mine Workers of America after 27 years of service. He retired a second time from Phillips Machine Services in Beckley.

He was a devout Christian and a faithful member of the Amigo Missionary Baptist Church. Mitch touched many lives through his sincere faith, his down to earth personality, his gift of telling tall tales, and his big, bright smile.

He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Jones and Lynette Lowe (Kelly); five grandchildren, Kaley Butler (Josh), Jacob Osborne, Kelcie Lowe, Laci Tankersley and Brynn Jones; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Whitt and

Lela Graham (Danny); three brothers-in-law, Rod McKinney (Betty), Denny McKinney and Dwight McKinney; two nephews, Chris Whitt (Melanie) and Bryan Graham (Myra) and one niece, Tonya Whitt.

The family sincerely thanks the staff of The Villages at Greystone for the exceptional care they have provided over the past 3 1/2 years.

Services will be 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at the First United Methodist Church 200 South College Avenue, Bluefield, VA 24605 with Rev. Curtis England and Rev. Taylor Hines officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
