Margaret Jacqueline (Sampson) Humphrey, 87, a proud longtime resident of Oak Hill, WV, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in Greensboro, NC, following a long and courageous battle with dementia. Born on April 4, 1939, in Beckley, WV, she was the daughter of the late James Roy Sampson and Beulah (Wendell) Sampson and the granddaughter of Ida Sampson who raised her.

She was employed by FMRS and when a teaching job became available there, she earned her GED to secure this position and took great pride in caring for numerous special needs children throughout her time there. When this facility closed, she turned her love of cooking into a career. She retired from St. Andrews Day Care Center after 16 years of service, utilizing her skill as an amazing cook. She prepared wonderful meals with great care and shared her love and quick-witted sense of humor most often around the table where family and friends gathered to enjoy her food, laughter and treasured memories. During this time of loss, her family is comforted by the many moments spent together, especially those filled with the warmth of her kitchen and the love she poured into every meal.

Margaret was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Humphrey, to whom she was married for 47 years; her beloved son, Danny Humphrey; and her siblings, sister, Sylvia Haight and brother, Robert Lee Sampson. Those left to cherish her wonderful memory include her two devoted sons and caregivers, Jeff Humphrey and wife Annette of High Point, NC, and Russ Humphrey and wife Cindy of Greensboro, NC; her grandchildren, Christy Payne and husband John of Apex, NC, Bobby Craver and fiancé Jennifer Mills of Pleasant Garden, NC, Travis Humphrey of Archdale, NC, and John Humphrey of High Point, NC; her great-grandchildren, Kayla Craver of MD, Connor and Camryn Payne of Apex, NC, and her great-great-grandson, Khyree Roberts of MD.

Visitation is planned for Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 1:00-2:00 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with a celebration of life at 2:00 with Pastor Greg Swisher officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
