Lela Margie Shelton

Lela Margie Shelton, 82, of Pierpoint, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley. 

Born December 3, 1943, is Troutdale, Virginia, Margie was the daughter of the late Shell J. Whitaker and Mary Privette Whitaker.

Margie spent most of her life in Pierpoint and was a longtime member of Pierpoint Freewill Baptist Church, where she attended faithfully until her health declined. She was known for her strong faith and love of family. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and she enjoyed spending time with those she loved. 

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Shelton, and her grandson, Christopher Mills. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Paula Shelton; her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Dewey Mills; her sister, Tilda Cohen; and her grandchildren, Nick Shelton and his wife, Michele, Courtney Poling and her husband, Kyle, and Samantha Wood and her husband, Casey; she is also survived by her great grandchildren, Olivia and Harper Poling, William Shelton, and Ethan, Adalynn, and Raelynn Wood. 

Pallbearers will be Nick Shelton, Kyle Poling, Casey Wood, and Richard Massie. 

Services will be 12 Noon, Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Pierpoint Freewill Baptist Church, Pierpoint with Pastor Butch Acord officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. 

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Bowers Hospice House for the compassionate care provided to Margie during her finals days.
