John Paul “Johnny” Worley, 79, of Mullens, passed away on Saturday, July 25th, 2026, at his home. 

Johnny was born June 4th, 1947 in Mullens, the youngest son of John James and Grace Pendleton Worley, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by brothers Lewis and David Worley, and sister Betty Worley Huddleston.

Johnny was a 1965 graduate of Mullens High School. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Vietnam Era. He specialized in aviation avionics, and was in the Naval Honor Guard, and the Military Police. He was especially proud that he was involved in the search for the missing U.S.S. Scropion, and loved to share stories about his years in the Navy. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Shangrilai. Johnny worked several years at Wyoming Auto and many years at US Steel Mining Corporation. He also worked for Bluestone Coal Co. and Cleveland Cliffs. John was a longtime member of the Bud Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and treasurer for many years. He attended Rockcastle Baptist Church at the time of his passing. He was the current Board President of the Wyoming County Council on Aging.

He was married to the love of his life for 55 years, Jeanne Runion Worley, of the home. He is survived by a niece, Vicki Worley Stevens and a nephew Mike Worley, and other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a brother-in-law and wife, Terry and Kim Runion of Mullens, two nieces, Tara Runion King (Matthew) and Allyson Runion Coleman (Randy) of North Carolina, and a nephew John Thornsbury (Crissy) of South Carolina, along with great nieces and nephews Claire and Ruby King, Olivia, Luke, and Wyatt Coleman, Luke and Levi Stevens.

Services are scheduled for Friday, July 31st 2026, at the Tyree Funeral Home in Mt. Hope with Rev. Tom Lusk and Rev. Silas Mullins officiating. The service will be at 1:00pm with visitation at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with military rights being conducted by the Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard.
