On Saturday October 14, 2023, John “Johnny” Herbert Earl Reid II, went home to be with the Lord after a sudden illness came upon a long illness he had been fighting.
Born on January 11, 1954 in Landstuhl, Germany on an Air Force Base to Parents John Herbert Earl Reid and Joyce “Peggy” Elizabeth (Williams) Ruff.
Johnny had a wicked sense of humor. He loved to laugh, tell jokes, scare you. He was also incredibly intelligent. Knew the Bible so well! It was a gift! He use to play in chess tournaments in the 1980’s. He could work a Rubik’s cube in seconds. Loved them. He loved oldies. He loved his grand babies or aliens as he use to call them.
Johnny is preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Zelma “Sissy” (Craigo) Reid, His Father- John Herbert Earl Reid, Paternal Grandparents- Charles and Minnie (Qualls) Reid, Maternal Grandparents- Cecil and Nona (Yancey) Williams, Infant sister Marion Reid, and Brother Gregory Reid.
He is survived by his mother, Joyce “Peggy” Elizabeth (Williams) Ruff of Maple Fork, WV. One daughter, Nona LeeAnn Reid of Bradley, WV. Three Grandchildren, Mackenzie Faith McGuire of Bradley, WV, Cody Brian Lee McGuire of Beckley, WV, Meghan Kylie (McGuire) Holmes of Beckley, WV and Grandson-in-law, Dominick Mitchell Holmes of Beckley, WV. He is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Natalie Grace Adkins of Bradley, WV and Elainea “Lainey” Mae Holmes of Beckley, WV.
He is also survived by three sisters. Barbara Ruff of Maple Fork, WV. Dana (Steve) Stump of Cool Ridge, WV, and Kelly (Jimmy) Graham of Maple Fork, WV. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who he loved and they loved him dearly. One niece has helped in the past few months in his care and the family wants to give a special thanks to is Angela Ruff for helping out as much as she has.
He had many extended family members that we may not have listed, and please forgive us, but he loved you all.
Visitation for friends will be at 1:00pm Wednesday October 18th with the Funeral following at 2:00pm with Pastor James Bailey officiating.
Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Oak Hill, WV
Pallbearers will be Ashton Shepherd, Cody McGuire, Brandon Blevins, Dominick Holmes, Timmy Tyree, and Tim Williams.
The family would like to thank Raleigh General SICU nurses and the Bowers Hospice House for all the compassion and care they showed to the family .
