Jerry Thomas Shrewsbury, 71, of Barkers Ridge, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 in a Beckley hospital.
Born May 6, 1954, at Barkers Ridge, he was the son of the late Henry Jasper and Flora (Shrewsbury) Shrewsbury.
Jerry was raised on the family farm on Barkers Ridge. He graduated in 1972 from Mullens High School. Jerry moved to Virginia Beach /Norfolk , Virginia area. Jerry was a heavy equipment operator in the construction of building bridges. He also lived at Arrowhead Beach , North Carolina. He liked to go camping, fishing, and hunting. Jerry was a member of the Moose Lodge. Jerry liked to dance and he liked traveling (keeping the roads hot. ). After Jerry retired he moved back to the family farm. Jerry enjoyed 8 years of gardening and raising livestock. Jerry died fighting lung cancer. His faith is Southern Baptist. Jerry met a lot of people, once you have met Jerry. You would never forget him. Jerry loved his little fat puppy Ruby.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his siblings, Willie Jasper Shrewsbury, Dora Ellen Shrewsbury, Charles Russell Shrewsbury (sister-in-law Linda Shrewsbury), Victoria Elizabeth Shrewsbury Blankenship (brother-in-law, Walter Leo Sr.), Samuel Paul Shrewsbury (sister-in-law Yvonne), and Robert.” Bob.” McLean (brother-in-law).
Those left to cherish his memory include his sisters, Brenda” Maggie” Shrewsbury McLean, Charlene Shrewsbury Cecil (David), and Nola Shrewsbury; brothers, Henry” Hank” Roland Shrewsbury (Mary) and Oral Wycie Shrewsbury (Jo Ann); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service and burial will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at the Shrewsbury Family Cemetery, Barkers Ridge with Pastor Mike Williams officiating.
For those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery.
