Obituary

James "Jim" Woodrow Copley, Jr., 74, of Oak Hill, WV went home to be with the lord on May 3, 2026 at home surrounded by his wife and family.

Born in a small house on Gentry Town Road, Scarbro, WV, Jim was a son of the late James Woodrow Copley, Sr. and Viola Geraldine "Jerri" McVey. Jim graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology with a degree in Civil Engineering and later fulfilled his high school dream of becoming a construction inspector/engineer of the Meadow River Bridge and the New River Gorge Bridge while working for the WV Department of Highways. He then worked over 25 years in the coal industry with the majority of those years for Brooks Run Coal Company where he started as a Junior Engineer and worked his way up to Vice President of Operations. While under his leadership Brooks Run was recognized for it safety and production milestones often appearing in reports from the WV Office of Miners Health, Safety and Training.

Jim was a dedicated hard worker but his ultimate passion was for God, his church and his family. He attended Maple Fork Baptist Church where for many years he was in charge of video and sound production for their weekly services until he recently became a member of Fellowship Memorial Baptist where he and and his wife mow call home. His favorite past time include gardening with corn being the Copley Specialty, fishing, and most importantly family dinners. Ji's nature was to playfully pick on those he loved most and his laughter could fill any room. No matter what you knew him by Daddy, Papaw, Grandpa, Uncle Jim, Jimbo, Little Jim, Mr. Copley, or Sweetheart, he will sorely be missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Donna Blevins-Copley; his children, Chad Copley, Jamie Copley Settle and husband Scott, Amber Easter Hinkle and husband Doug, and Christina Copley; grandchildren, Troy, Mahayla, Camerin, Derek, Catherine, Ezra, Madeline, Grayson, and Ronald; great grandchildren, Alaina, Noela, and Lillah; siblings, Wanda Lovitz and husband Jerry, and Rick Copley and wife Vickie; and so many other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church, Maple Fork Baptist Church, or Hospice of Southern, WV.

Friends and family are invited to attend the celebration of Jim's life held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church 113 Terry Avenue Oak Hill WV, 25901 with Pastor Roger Harding officiating.

Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service at the church in Oak Hill.
