Our beloved mother Jackie Lee Scarbro, 83, of Mount Hope, West Virginia, passed away suddenly on April 11, 2026 at Charleston Area Medical Center.
Born August 28, 1942, in Pax, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ida Belle and Zachary Hancock.
Jackie's greatest joy was spending time with her family and front porch setting. She was a retired cook who spent her life caring for others, both through her work and through her family.
Jackie grew up in Pax, West Virginia and relocated to Lansing, Michigan, in 1968, where she lived for 13 years with her husband Franklin before retuning home to West Virginia. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, living her life on a foundation of kindness, love, laughter, and being a steady anchor for those around her. Her legacy will always be one of kindness, compassion, and love.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Nancy Kaye Cordle (Kevin) of Oak Hill, Geneva Lynn Kious (Frank) of Hilltop, Tracie Scarbro of Cirtsville, and Leslie Billups (Mark) of Maple Fork; sons, Edward Scarbro (Carol) of Beckley and Jerry Wayne Scarbro (Devonna) of Beckley. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Zack Hancock, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia. Along with a large extended family of in-laws including her nieces and nephews and her lifelong best friend, Maggie Rounds of Hessel, Michigan.
In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Franklin Scarbro; her sisters, Violet Gay Delung, Shirley Scarbro, Sara Kirk, and Sandra Bowyer; and her brothers, Damon "Mutt" Jones and William Bowyer.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her neighbors Rosie and Patty Colaiseno for their care, friendship, and support and Dr. Alexander Navone for his compassion and care at CAMC, Memorial.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with her son Jerry Scarbro officiating. Inurnment will follow at Pax Community Cemetery in Pax.
