Howard E. Parrish, 75, of Oak Hill, WV died on Friday, December 12, 2003 at CAMA - General Division in Charleston, WV following a short illness. Born January 05, 1928 at Ansted, WV he was the son of the late Edward and Grace Cogar Parrish. Mr. Parrish was a 1946 graduate of Ansted High School. He was employed by Kroger Company for 25 years, retiring in June 1975. He served in the National Guard from Oct 5, 1949 to Jan 5, 1988 and received several awards. During his tenure he served in variou units including infantry, armor, MP's and engineers. He retired with the rank of sergeant 1st class as a motor sergeant with the 193rd Dump Truck Company, Oak Hill. He was employed with the National Guard Technicians full time from June 29, 1975 to Jan 5, 1988. He served in the Berlin Crisis from Oct 15, 1961 to Aug 12, 1962. Survivors include wife of 50 years, Norma J. Whipkey Daughter; Cathy Parrish Stump and husband, Claude "Junior", of Beckley Sisters: Polly Eagle and husband, James, of Huntington Mary Puckett and husband, Carl, of Clanton, Ala Niece: Sonia Crist and husband, Andy of Birmingham, Ala Nephew: C.H. Puckett and wife, Laura, of Birmingham, Ala Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Sunday, December 14, 2003, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Services will be on Monday, December 15, 2003, at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Bernie Jernigan officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park, Ansted WV with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3110, Oak Hill, WV. Pallbearers will be Bill Davis, Frank Tuckin, Jodie Ward, Richard Dobbins, Ray Gravely, James Copley and J.D. McGraw.
