Homer E. Nicely, Sr, of Oak Hill, WV passed away on May 29, 2019 at the age of 96. His Christian faith and belief in his Savior have assured him eternal life in heaven.
Born in Thurmond, WV on November 13, 1922, son of the late Homer W. and Josie H. Blackwell Nicely.
Homer was a Marine and WW II veteran. A career employee of C&O railroad, he retired as a railroad engineer in 1987. Upon his retirement he enjoyed his many return trips to his hometown of Thurmond where he often reminisced and shared historical knowledge of this railroad town. Throughout his retirement he enjoyed his woodworking hobby, and in passing has left many handcrafted articles that family and friends now cherish.
Homer was preceded in death by sister, Wanda Beke. Most sadly, he was preceded in death by his youngest son, Doug Nicely, but now has rejoined him in eternal life.
Those left to forever cherish his memory include his wife, Marguerite (Kelley) Nicely; and children, John Nicely, Teresa Drennen (Dave), Homer Nicely Jr. (Vickie); grandchildren, Stacey Farmer, Marguerite Nicely, Autumn Nicely, Leigh Anne Lynch, Andrea Hamrick, Latisha Walker and James Hamrick; twelve great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
The family wishes to thank the many healthcare professionals at Harper Mills and Bowers Hospice House for their compassionate care in Homer's final days. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV 25801
Services will be on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Mike Kees officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
