  • Gaynell Tolley, 79, of Fayetteville passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at CAMC General Hospital in Charleston.

  • Born December 13, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rosa Wroten of Oak Hill.

  • Gaynell was a graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill. She earned her nursing degree from C&O Hospital School of Nursing in Clifton Forge, VA, in 1967 and worked as a nurse in Beckley and Oak Hill for over 40 years. Her legacy remains in the numerous staff members she trained at Plateau Medical Center for over 25 years.Gaynell dedicated her life to helping others through her work as a nurse, as a volunteer for the American Heart Association, and as a caregiver to family members. She impacted countless lives through her compassion, loyalty, and selfless dedication.

  • Gaynell is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, John Tolley; her brother John Wroten; sons Mike Sowers and David Tolley; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and her devoted Springer Spaniel, Maggie.

  • Per her wishes, no formal services will be held. Her family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at a date to be determined.
