Gary Wayne Powell, Sr. 75, of Oak Hill passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Raleigh General Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Born April 10, 1951 in Beckley, WV he was the son of the late Charles Powell and Dollie Smith Powell.

Gary worked as a truck driver and was very passionate about driving trucks. In his leisure he like to watch Judge Judy, and his Westerns such as Gunsmoke that he had on every day, working on hot rods, eating food on the holidays as he loved cranberry sauce, his dog Romeo who was his pride and joy, and most of all he loved spending time with his family whom he cherished deeply.

Along with his parents he is also preceded in death by his siblings, Arby Smith, Bobby Powell, Joan Mauzy, and Jack Powell.

Those left to cherish his wonderful memory include his loving daughter, Melissa Lee and husband Ronald of Victor, WV; son, Gary Powell, Jr and wife Cathy; granddaughters, McKenzie McCann of Victor, WV, Caroline of Stanton, VA and Autumn of Alexandria, VA; grandson, Trey Lee of Dixie, WV; siblings, Delores Powell, Janice Hamrick, and Dean Powell.

Funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with Pastor Greg Hurley officiating.

Friends may visit one hour prior to service at the funeral home in Oak Hill.
