Freddie "Pappy" Roat

Freddie Gene “Pappy” Roat, 85, of Oak Hill passed away peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2022 at the Bowers Hospice House.
Born October 19, 1937 in Mount Olive, WV he was the son of the late August and Sadie Goodwin Roat.
Freddie started working in the coal mines in July of 1961 where he retired after 42 years, Freddie never met a stranger and would like to ride through town talking to people, he enjoyed spending time on the farm and his greatest joy was being surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by Siblings, Catherine Dozier, George W. Roat, Louis Roat, Margaret Dorsey, Edna Bennett, Wanda Balser, Mary Dorsey, and Esther Roat.
Those left to cherish his wonderful and precious memory include his loving wife, Patricia Leake Roat; son, Doyle Dodie Roat (Jeanie); daughter, Lisa Roat Lavender (Don); 2 grandchildren, Brandi Cook (Keith) and Erin Hughes (Dusty); 4 great grandchildren, Logan Cook (Tempest), Aiden Cook, Luke Hughes, and Isaiah Hughes; 1 great-great granddaughter, Kennadi Gail Cook; and sisters, Libby Myers and Evelyn Stevens.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM on Saturday December 31, 2022 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Ronald Price officiating. Burial will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park in London, WV.
Visitation for friends will be two hours prior to service from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home in Oak Hill.
Pallbearers will be Logan Cook, Kenny Cullum, Brandon Davis, Johnny Davis, Chris Stover, and Lee Treadway.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations of sympathy be made to the Bowers Hospice house 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV, 25801 or to St. Jude Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis TN, 38105.
