Franklin Delano DeLung, 86, of Oak Hill, West Virginia, was called to his Heavenly home on Sunday, July 12, 2026 after winning a hard-fought battle with dementia. He leaves behind a legacy deeply rooted in faith, family, and the quiet beauty of nature.
Born May 27, 1940 in Mossy, West Virginia, Frank was the son of the late James and Ida Delung. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Larkin K. DeLung; his beloved son-in-law, Paul Treadway; his sister, Ada Davis; and his brother, Larkin E. DeLung.
Frank leaves behind an army of loved ones who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Sharon DeLung; his children, Tammy Treadway, Sonja Counts (John), Frankie DeLung (Christy), Travis DeLung (Misty), and Sherrie Myers (Teddy); his brother, Jim DeLung; and his sister, Gayle Kees. He was a proud Paw-Paw of 14 grandchildren, Tony, Megan, heather, Hannah, Hailey, Cory, Elijah, Jacob, Caidence, Jaidyn, Joshua, Jaxon, James, and Raegan; and great grandfather of 8 great-grandchildren, Lucas, Trey, Leyton, Zaiden, Kodah, Axel, Larkin, and Everly.
Frank was a man both complex and beautifully simple in nature. he would be the first to admit he wasn't perfect and made his share of mistakes, but he found ultimate peace, grace, and redemption in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A proud United States Army Veteran, Frank served his Country from 1957 to 1960. His time spent stationed in Germany was a frequent source of the many favorite stories he loved to share. Yet, of all his life's chapters, his greatest accomplishment was the beautiful life and family he built alongside his wife, Sharon. Their 60year journey began with a chance meeting at a Murphy's Department Store, growing into a large, loving family that truly meant the world to him. Nothing mattered more to Frank that his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
When he wasn't surrounded by family, Frank was happiest in the great outdoors. Whenever he was able, he spent his free time "down the holler"- digging roads and ramps, gathering fresh spring water, and tending to his garden. He was also a beekeeper who took great joy in making his own honey, and an avid collector of unique items-some so strange it might take a lifetime to figure out exactly why he kept them, though they always brought a smile to those who knew him.
Funeral services to honor and celebrates Frank's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with Pastor Greg Swisher officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Oak Hill.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services at the funeral home in Oak Hill.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Frank's memory to the Bowers Hospice House 454 Cranberry Drive Beckley WV, 25801 for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided.
