Edward George Underwood

Edward G. Underwood, age 94, of Bradley, West Virginia, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at his daughter's home in Beckley, surrounded by his loving family.

E.G. was born on September 25, 1931, in Kilsyth, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Carlos and Edna Wilson Underwood.

In addition to his parents , he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Ann Underwood, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage: his sisters, Maxine Britts and Betty Meadows; his brothers, Ned Underwood, Howard Underwood, and Delbert Underwood; his granddaughters, Tara Johnson and Michelle Smith; and his daughter-in-law, Shirley Underwood.

E.G. was a proud coal miner for 35 years and a dedicated member of Mount Hope Christian Church.

He was a man who appreciated the simple things in life. He loved ice cream and enjoyed it nearly everyday, always kept peppermint candy close by------sometimes even Werther's Originals--- and was known for his familiar whistling, often heard before he was even seen. He also enjoyed visiting family and friends, often stopping by just to spend time together, bringing with him his warm smile, stories, and quiet wisdom.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: sons, Larry Underwood (Peggy) of Maple Fork and terry Underwood (Shelby) of Oak Hill; and daughter, Melanie Bower (Jim) of Beckley. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brittany Stanley (Joe), Jamie Clay, and Dawn Ruff (Dave); 10 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by his sisters, Jackie Skaggs of Maple Fork and Liz Evans of Brooklyn, Ohio; as well as his sister-in-law, Frances Underwood, Linda Underwood, and Debbie Underwood.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March, 20, 2026 at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Hope with Pastor Joseph Seaux officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley.

Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service at the funeral home in Mount Hope.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Southern West Virginia for their care and compassion.
