Edna Mae (Butterworth) Garretson, 86, of Basin, WV, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born May 18, 1940, at Micajah Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Mary (Gray) Butterworth. Edna was a graduate of Matoaka High School. 

She was a homemaker and raised five wonderful children with her late husband, Richard. She and Richard when their health permitted attended the Spruce Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Basin.

Richard and Edna were married 65 years raising five strong children. One child Joann preceded both Mom and Dad to heaven stillborn in 1963. Also awaiting Mom to heaven is her brother Richard Gray and his wife Lula whom she loved very much. Her sisters Nollie and Marion (May), and her special nephew Wesley Potter whom she played with when they were children she loved him and his wife Brenda and children so much. Her sister Nollie had other children Roger, Mary and Florence she loved also. Now to those left be happy their loved one is singing at her Saviors feet. Richard Jr and Debbie, John and Lisa, Kristin, Nancy and Rick, and Melissa and Jamie. Altogether, there are five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Along with many nephews, nieces, cousins, etc. Mom will be missed until we all see her again.

Funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Spruce Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Basin with Pastor Todd Franklin officiating. 

In keeping with her wishes she will be cremated following the service.Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service at the church.
