Donald Nichols, 94, of Oak Hill, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025.
He was the son of the late Clarence Frederick and Dollie Sue Burgess Nichols. Born on October 15, 1931, in Oak Hill, Donald was one of twelve children and shared an unbreakable bond with his twin brother, Ronald “Penie,” who preceded him in death earlier this year. He cherished his large, close-knit family and the many memories they built together over the years.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters Mary Burgess, Mildred Burnette, Margie Sneed, and Martha Longino, and by his brothers Ray, Ralph, Charles, Clarence “Jr.,” Robert, and Ernest Nichols.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann, and together they shared a lifetime of devotion before her passing. They raised three children: Scott, who preceded him in death, and two surviving daughters, Donna Fitzwater and Jennie Nichols.
His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Erika Williams, Ryan Adkins and her husband John, Meghan Clark and her husband Kyle, and Sean Fitzwater—and his great-grandchildren Owen and Jackson Adkins, and Stetson and Greer Clark, who loved their Pawpaw Bo dearly.
Donald built a life grounded in faith, hard work, and love. He owned and operated Nichols Chevron, where he became a familiar face to many and was known for his kindness, humor, and willingness to help anyone in need. He loved tending his garden each summer and took great joy in sharing its bounty with family and friends.
Donald loved God with all his heart and his family just as deeply. His laughter, generosity, and steady presence will be remembered always. Having lived a life of faith and devotion, he is now home with the Lord, reunited with Barbara Ann, Scott, and the family who went before him.
Services will be 1:00 P.M., Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Jones Avenue First Church of God with Pastor Mike Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
