Dixie Lee Donell, of Pax, was known and loved by her family simply as Mommaw.

Mommaw was truly one of a kind—loud, blunt, hilarious, loving, and unapologetically herself. She never met a stranger, had absolutely no filter, and could make a sailor blush. She said what she wanted, when she wanted, and had no qualms about telling your business. She sang proudly even if it was off-key, and could fill a room with her personality.

More than anything, Dixie loved her family. She was the matriarch and glue that held generations together, and her grandchildren held an especially treasured place in her heart.

Dixie was the mother of Lydia, Carmen, Lisa, and Paul. She was a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her brother James.

Those fortunate enough to know Dixie will remember her laughter, her unmistakable personality, her colorful sayings, and the fierce love she had for her family. There will never be another Mommaw quite like her—and frankly, the world probably couldn’t handle two.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever part of the stories her family tells. Because a woman like Dixie Lee Donell doesn’t simply disappear from a family. She becomes part of its language, its laughter, and its history.
