It is with profound sadness and immense love that we announce the passing of, David Elliott Abshire, 65, of Mount Hope passed away Monday, June 22, 2026 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Born September 7, 1960 in Beckley, WV he was the son of the late Ezelle Lawrence Abshire and Celia Ramona (Tyree) Abshire.

Throughout his life, he was known for his deep love of family, his dedication to God, and his passion for the things that brought him joy. A lifelong fan of WVU Athletics, he rarely missed a game and could recall player statistics and team history with remarkable accuracy. Whether discussing a current season or reminiscing about years past, his knowledge and enthusiasm for WVU sports were unmatched. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball and carried that competitive spirit and love of sports throughout his life. He found great happiness cheering on his favorite teams and sharing those moments with family and friends. His faith was was the foundation of his life. He walked closely with God, finding strength, comfort, and purpose in his beliefs. His example of faith, kindness, and perseverance touched the lives of those around him and will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. One of his greatest blessings was the life he built with his dear wife. Just recently, they celebrated 43 years of marriage-A testament to their enduring love, commitment, and partnership. Together they created a home filled with loved, laughter, faith, and family. He was also a proud and devoted father who loved his children beyond measure. His children were amongst his greatest joys, and the bond he shared with them was one of unconditional love that will remain forever in their hearts. He also cherished traveling, especially the cruises and vacations with his wife and family. A true animal lover, he had a special place in his heart for his pets. Above all else he was a loving husband, father, and friend. While we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life well lived and a man who loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ezelle Lawrence Abshire; mother, Celia Ramona Abshire (Tyree); brother, Gerald "Buck" Edward Abshire; brother-in-law, Kenneth Harvey Cottle II; and nice, Kelli Michelle Abshire-Miller.

Those left to cherish his wonderful memory include his loving and adoring wife of 43 years Mary Josephine Abshire of Mount Hope, WV; daughters, Michelle Leigh Abshire of Mount Hope, WV and Jessica Rian Brackett of Raleigh, NC; son, David Lawrence Abshire of Mount Hope, WV; sister, Pam Hall (Larry) of Ripley, WV; brothers, Stan Abshire (Carla) of Sissonville, WV and Steve Abshire of Curtsville, WV; and a host of nieces, nephews, brother and sister in laws.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Pastor Delmas Wolfe officiating. Following the service there will be a celebration of life held at the Cottle Mountainair Hotel 405 Main Street Mount Hope WV, 25880 for all who would like to come and share stories and memories of David.

Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home in Mount Hope.
