Chester Oliver
Meredith
January 23, 1946 – May 13, 2026
“May the work I’ve done speak for me”
Chester O. Meredith, 80, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. He busted Heaven wide open, running to meet Jesus and to be reunited with his precious mother at His feet.
Born in Kingston, Chester was a proud West Virginian through and through. He carried the values he was raised with; hard work, loyalty, love for family, and faith through his life. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger, who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need, and who made everyone around him feel like family. His laugh was contagious, his stories unforgettable, and his presence larger than life.
Chester is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife of 57 years, Glyda; his daughters, Lisa and Lori; son-in-law Jeff; and Lori’s fiancé, Enzo. He also leaves behind his step-granddaughter and family, so many cherished nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply, and his overly loved cats. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents and siblings.
More than anything in this world, Chester loved his girls; they were his greatest pride and the center of his universe. Being a dad was his everything. There was nothing he would not do for his family, and he spent his life making sure those he loved were protected, cared for, and always knew how much they meant to him. He loved fiercely, completely, and without hesitation.
Chester proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force and remained a proud American throughout his life. He built an incredible career, first in coal mining and later in specialized foundation repair and structural stabilization, fully retiring just a few years ago. He took great pride in honest hard work and providing for his family every single day of his life. Chester was strong in every sense of the word; not only in his work ethic, but in the steadfast way he showed up for the people he loved. His home church was Life Community Baptist Church, which he attended regularly and where he deeply appreciated the worship and teaching of God’s Word.
To know Chester was to know loyalty, humor, strength, and unconditional love. His friends quickly became family, and his heart was bigger than most. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, resilience, and devotion that will live on through every person fortunate enough to know him.
Though his family’s hearts are broken, they find peace knowing he is whole again and with Jesus.
Graveside rites with burial to follow will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 18, 2026 at Pax Community Cemetery in Pax with Pastor Doug Holley officiating.
Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery in Pax.
