Carolyn Newhouse

Carolyn Newhouse, 83, of Salem, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at Salem Health and Rehab, Salem, VA. 

Born November 6, 1942, at Kincaid, WV, she was the daughter of the late Silas Mark and Lily Love Shaeffer Newhouse. 

Carolyn was a member of the Loop Creek Baptist Church while living at home in West Virginia. She moved to Christiansburg, Virginia in 2012 to be close to her son and grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting and watching old westerns. She loved children and especially enjoyed watching little ones play. She was also an animal lover. She never encountered a dog or cat that she wasn't willing to adopt and/or care for. She was a long time avid reader and especially enjoyed reading her Bible. She spent her life as a homemaker, taking care of both her immediate and extended family members. 

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Vonna Newhouse Dillon; brother, William Joseph Newhouse; and daughter, Pamela Sue Dillon. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Deborah Walker and her husband, Russell of Kincaid; two sons, David Newhouse and his wife, Tammy of Troutville, VA and Thomas Dillon of Oak Hill; two grandchildren, David (Hank) Newhouse, II and his wife, Amanda of Elliston, VA and Jennifer Taylor and her husband, Gary of Kincaid; and three great grandchildren, Morgan Nicole Newhouse, Andrew Taylor, and Hunter Taylor. 

Services will be 1:00 P.M., Monday, December 29, 2025 at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill with Pastor Ronnie Persinger officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. 

Friends may call one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home. 

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
