Carlos “Sonny” Alonza Jones, 89, of Oak Hill went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at his residence.
Carlos was born on November 8, 1928 in Callaway, WV to his loving parents the late Claudius and Eva Hoke Jones.
At the age of one his family moved to Mount Hope where Carl played football in his high school days as a Mount Hope Mustang. After graduating he went on to help build the American Hardware Store in Mount Hope. Carl enlisted in the US Air Force and fought in the Korean War. After serving his country Carl moved to New York where he worked as an Aircraft Mechanic at JFK Airport in Queens, NY. Returning to West Virginia after his retirement he became a devoted member of the Mount Hope Baptist Temple where he worshiped his Lord and Savior.
He is preceded in death by loving brothers and sister, Charles H. Jones, Lyle A. Jones, Claudius Jones, Jr., and Margaret K. Wood.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and caring wife of 56 years, Ethel May Jones; daughter, Carol A. Jones of West Babylon, NY; devoted son, Henry W. Jones (Beverly E.) of Oak Hill; three beautiful grandchildren, Stephanie M. Jones, Elizabeth K. Jones, and David Carl Zipperlen all from Pennsylvania; and brothers and sisters, Rodney R. Jones of Oak Hill, Bernard K. Jones of New York, Joyce A. Robinson of Oklahoma, and Kathleen R. Medina of Mount Hope.
Services will be on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Mount Hope Baptist Temple with Pastor David Sneed officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from noon until service time on Saturday at the church.
