Brenda Joyce Taylor Canterbury

Brenda Joyce Taylor Canterbury, 83, of Beckwith, WV passed away on September 27, 2023 at Hospice of Southern WV. She was born February 8, 1940 in Oak Hill, WV to the late Berlin and Maggie Treadway Taylor.

She is survived by her children, Larry Canterbury, Jr. (Cynthia), Jody Canterbury (Elanda), Trina Canterbury Sale, and Christy Canterbury Schell (Chris); grandchildren, Amy Canterbury Hanna (Grey), Nicholas Gover, Colin Schell and Colby Schell, her great-grandchildren, Caroline and Bennett Hanna and her sibling, Karen Taylor Duncan (Randy).

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Denise Elaine, her husband, Larry B. Canterbury, Sr., her siblings, Jimmy Taylor, Howard Taylor, Jack Taylor, and Janice Light. Sister-in-law, Betty Taylor and Gene Taylor.

She was a member of Cotton Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Choir Member and taught Vacation Bible School.

She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Her greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and members of her church family. She also enjoyed cooking large meals for our family on Sundays and Holidays.

In 1980 she began a career at Kroger where she retired in 2002. Her work friends and customers lovingly referred to her as Maw-Maw because of her contagious smile and warm personality.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Brother Mike Whisman officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.

Visitation for friends will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home in Oak Hill.

Her daughters, Trina and Christy, were constant caregivers the last five years of her life. Surrounded by her devoted children, she returned home to her Heavenly Father.
