Bobby Eugene "Gene" Toney, 90, of Scarbro passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026 at the Hilltop Center in Hilltop, WV.
Born April 22, 1936 in Minden, WV he was the son of the late Alva Toney and Virginia Canterbury Toney.
Gene was a proud United States Air Force Veteran, he was a man of many trades working as a welder on a strip mine and a shipyard. He was a member of the Dothan Community Church and in his leisure he enjoyed fishing, mushroom and ramp hunting, gardening, helping his neighbors by working on their lawn equipment and cars, cutting grass, talking to people as he never met a stranger, but most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his family especially the holidays with his grandchildren and great grandchildren who all knew him as Paw-paw.
Along with his parents he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Williams "Doc" Toney, Jesse Toney, and David Toney; and friend, Estel Smith.
Those left to cherish his wonderful memory include his loving children, Chris Toney, Lisha Beals (David), Theresa Massie and companion Marco Bragg, Nathan Toney, and twins Steven and Stephanie Toney; special companion of 15 plus years Bettie Wriston; grandchildren, Tiffany Paterline (Zach), Amanda Richardson, Cole Anderson, Ethan Toney, Tyler Lewis, Nick Toney, Anthony Toney, Luke Toney, Stacy Toney, and Jacob Reynolds; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Catherine Wriston; and brothers, Sherman "Art" Toney, Alva "Twiddle" Toney, and Ralph "Andy" Toney.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with Pastor James Miller officiating. Entombment will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service at the funeral home in Oak Hill.
The family would like to think all of the nursing staff at Hilltop Center for the care and compassion that they showed Mr. Toney and even became part of his family calling him Paw-paw.
