Blanche Nicholas

Blanche Marie Kirk Nicholas, 87, of Columbus, OH formerly of Scarbro, WV departed this world on Saturday, January 03, 2004 at Regency Manor in Columbus, OH. Born July 29, 1916 at Breeden, Mingo County, WV she was the daughter of the late Kelly and Tennessee Damron Kirk. She was the youngest of four children, none of whom are surviving. Mrs. Nicholas was a retired waitress and homemaker and a member of the Second Baptist Church, Ravenswood, WV. She was married to Jay French Canterbury on October 2, 1944. Of this union there were two daughters, Jacqueline Kay Jenkins of Virginia and Sandra White Sakamoto of Colorado. On January 8, 1965, she married Alfred Nicholas, Jr. Both husbands preceded her in death. Blanche has nine surviving grandchildren and one grandchild who preceded her in death. She also leaves to mourn nineteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; nephew, Walter Kirk of Columbus, OH; a number of extended relatives and a large number of friends including Inez "Marie" Orler of Scarbro. Blanche was a very caring mother and grandmother. She was loved and admired by her family who have many words to describe her. She was honest, kind, caring, loving, and compassionate. She was known for her strong character, integrity and hard work. Her friends describe her as reliable and willing to go the extra mile. She was known to everyone for her great sense of humor and wit. She did not spend her life amassing great wealth but devoted her life to her family. We love you. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Saturday, January 10, 2004, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Services will be on Saturday, January 10, 2004, at 2:00 pm at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Bill Menefee officiating. Burial will be at Newton Tyree Cemetery, Maple Fork WV.
