Stevie Robert Gwinn, 65, a long-time resident of Huntington and recently of Hilltop Nursing Center, Hilltop, WV, passed away on September 23, 2017, after a long illness.
Born in Glen Rogers, WV, on December 8, 1951 he was the youngest child of the late Ray and Della Lockhart Morgan Gwinn of Glen Rogers and Red Star.
He was preceded in death by brothers Benny Morgan, Thomas S. Gwinn, Sr., infant William Gwinn, and sister Betsy Ann Gwinn-Pack.
Surviving are brothers, Johnnie Gwinn of Front Royal, VA, and Jack (Kathy) Gwinn of Mount Hope; sisters, Alice Cozart of Beckley, Patty Miller of Harper, and Mamie (Steve) Swiger of Beaufort, SC; special nephews Tommy Gwinn, Jr. of Oak Hill and David Gwinn of Lake Worth, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In 1963, Stevie was baptized and became a member of the Red Star Baptist Church. He was a 1969 graduate of Mount Hope High School. He enjoyed listening to music on the radio and was an avid Marshall University football fan. Stevie always remembered birthdays of family members with special cards and letters expressing his unique poetry and proclaiming his love for Jesus. He will be sadly missed by his family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 1:00 PM. to 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill. Graveside services and burial will be conducted immediately following at 2:15 pm at the Hilltop Cemetery with Rev. Ronald Sears officiating.
