Pauline Meadows Burnside

Pauline Deloris “Polly” Burnside, née Meadows, of Beckley, West Virginia formerly of Kincaid, West Virginia, died January 10, 2017, at age 88, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-three years, Robert A. Burnside, Sr., by her parents, Paul and Grace Meadows; and by a sister, Billie Jean Meadows Eller.

Polly was born in Barger Springs, West Virginia, on December 1, 1928, and moved with her family to Page in 1936. She married Robert A. Burnside, Sr., on December 23, 1946, and they resided at Kincaid during their sixty-three years of marriage. After her husband’s death, she resided with her son, Robert, at his home in Beckley.

She was a member of Page Baptist Church from her childhood until the end of her life. While residing in Beckley she attended First Baptist Church on Neville Street in Beckley.

Mrs. Burnside was employed by the Kroger Company in Oak Hill from 1958 until her retirement in 1983. After her retirement she was employed by the Interrex Company in Oak Hill which produced Tom Clarke Gnomes and by the Kominsky Chiropractic office.

She is survived by two sons, Paul Allen Burnside and his wife Judy, of Oak Hill, and by Robert A. Burnside, Jr., and his friend, Donna Price, of Beckley; and by her sister, Irma Meadows Lockwood, of Naples, Florida.

She is survived by grandchildren, Sarah Burnside Lockhart and her husband, Dr. Cody Reed Lockhart, of Fayetteville. Susan Burnside Rashid and Mansoor Rashid of Ohio; Robert A. (Alex) Burnside III of Los Angeles, California; David Stephen Burnside of Beckley, and their mother Martha Bennett, also of Beckley; Lindsey Burnside of Oak Hill, and Shelly Burnside White and her husband Joseph White of Beckley.

She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Joseph, Daphne and Raania Rashid of Ohio; Lillian and Samuel Lockhart of Fayetteville, and Leah, Korie and Sydney White, of Beckley.

Mrs. Burnside was an accomplished painter and an avid reader. She also loved music and flowers and most of all, she loved her children and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

When she grew infirm as her life drew to a close, she received loving care and assistance from Ms. Martha Bennett, to whom Mrs. Burnside’s children and grandchildren are deeply grateful.

Services will be on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 4:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating. Entombment will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
