Paul William Thorne

March 18, 1929 — August 30, 2020

Paul William Thorne, 91, of Oak Hill, WV passed away Sunday, August 30, 2020, at Summersville Regional Medical Center in Summersville, WV.

Born March 18, 1929, in Rock Lick, WV he was the son of the late Luther Mote and Annie East Thorne.

For 45 years Paul was a proud West Virginia coal miner, having been general mine foreman at Valley Camp Coal in Wheeling, WV. He was member of the U.M.W.A. for 24 years, Gilmer County #118 A.F. & A.M., and Scottish Rite Valley of Wheeling from which he was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award; and was a loyal and faithful member of the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene and Church of the Nazarene in Eustis, Fl.

Daughter, Ruth Ann Thorne; brothers, James Thorne and Luther Thorne, Jr.; and sisters, Margaret Rhodes, Elva Butler, Virginia Thomas, Louise Hayes, Beatrice Fletcher, and Kathleen Butler preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Elizabeth Marguette "Liz" Butler Thorne; daughter, Judy Faye Kuhn (Roger); son, Jimmy Lee Thorne (Claudette); brother Leon “Skip” Thorne; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1:00PM Wednesday, September, 2, 2020 at the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Dan Cupp and Pastor Benjamin Bleigh officiating. Entombment will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with Masonic graveside rites by Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 A.F. and A.M. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

Those planning to attend should use proper COVID 19 precautions by wearing masks and maintaining social distancing of 6 feet.
