Mary Ellen Bell Jones

Mary Ellen (Bell) Jones, 75, life-long resident of Charleston, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019. Born September 14, 1943, she was the daughter of Gladys Cunningham Bell and Holmes Hansford Bell.
After graduation, Mary Ellen began her career as a buyer for Diamond Department Store. In June 1971, she was introduced to Charles Tandy Jones of Charleston by Governor Gaston Caperton and Charlie and Mary Ellen were married on November 17, 1972. In October 2012, she became Chairman of the Board of Port Amherst Limited and Amherst Madison of Charleston where she was very active in the initiatives taken to make the company successful.
She will be greatly missed by all of the employees at Port Amherst. Mary Ellen was an avid horsewoman and hiker. She kept her horses at their Davis Creek Farm. Her love for animals and nature were unconditional.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband, Charles (Charlie) Jones of Charleston; stepchildren, Laura (Dave) Pray of Charleston, Tandy (Alison) Jones of Pittsboro, N.C., and Jennifer Jones of Lewisburg; grand and great - grandchildren, Josh, Judy, Ellie and Zoe Pray; Anna and Marie Jones; Everett O'Flaherty; Rece, Will, Adelyn and Virginia Nester.
Per Mary Ellen's request, there was no visitation. A private family burial was held on Wednesday, February 27, at the family cemetery on Lundale Farm in Oak Hill.
Donations can be made to the Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311 in her memory.
Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill was in charge of arrangements.
