Marie Lee Petosa Phillips , 76, of Maple Fork, WV gained her wings on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, after a long, courageous battle with lung cancer
Born April 24, 1940 at Bristol, CT she was the daughter of the late Louis and Pauline Hotchkiss Petosa.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her family and friends dearly and always made sure they knew of and felt her love. Her smile and laughter were contagious and comforting to everyone. Marie had determination and strength beyond measure and was a true inspiration to all who knew her. She had numerous gifts, but her creativity was truly phenomenal.
Marie met and married the love of her life in Connecticut and together they had four devoted children. During her younger years she worked as a school bus driver, before relocating to West Virginia, where she cared for her family for the rest of her days.
Brothers, Arthur Paul Petosa and Danny T. Petosa preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 53 years, Joseph D. Phillips, Sr.; daughters, Dawn Marcus of Fayetteville, Tracy (Bill) Tucker of Maple Fork and Cheryl Porterfield of Maple Fork; one son, Joseph D. (Lesley) Phillips, Jr.; granddaughters, Amber (Todd) Johnson of Shady Spring, Courtney Marcus of Fayetteville, Sydney Phillips of Maple Fork, Tess (Shaun) Phillips-Terry of Shady Spring, Lori (Chris) Muss of Powhatan, VA; grandsons, John Porterfield of Maple Fork, Steven (Corina) Porterfield of Dothan, AL, Adam (Jess) Tucker of Beckley; great grandchildren, Grace Johnson, Christopher and Michael Muss, Savanna and Isaiah Tucker; brothers, Louis (Donna) Petosa of Plainville, CT, Richard (Joan) Petosa of Tampa, FL; sister, Judith (Pete) Thulin of Torrington, CT; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
Services will be Monday January 16, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Pastor Brad Williams officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call from 11:00 am until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
Pete Bowyer, Todd Johnson, Danny Petosa, Joe Phillips, Jr., John Porterfield, Steve Porterfield, Shaun Terry and Bill Tucker will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV 25801.
