Larry Edward Holliday

August 25, 1935 — July 13, 2021

Former Fayette County newspaper co-owner, publisher, and editor, Larry Edward Holliday, died on Tuesday July 13, 2021, at his home in Oak Hill, WV.
Holliday was born on August 25, 1935, in Logan, WV. He was the younger son of the late J. Kelvin Holliday and Kathleen Harris Holliday. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only brother, Robert K. Holliday of Fayetteville, WV.
Surviving Holliday is his adoring wife of 54 years, Faye Greene Holliday, and two special God-given daughters, Rachel Eells-Tom and her husband, Jason, of Round Hill, VA, and Madeline Eells Pearson and her husband, Jesse, of Huntington, WV. Surviving also are two beautiful grandchildren, Nyomi Carmen Tom and Jules Edward Tom; nephews Kelvin Edward Holliday, Stephen Holliday, Robert Holliday, Brandon Holliday, and Steven Greene; nieces Kathleen Holliday, Margaret Greene Gray, and Kathy Greene; and cousins Margaret Harmon, Vanessa Walker, and Susan Woods.
Holliday served as editor-publisher of The Montgomery Herald, Montgomery, WV, for more than 30 years, was co-publisher of The Fayette Tribune, Oak Hill, WV, and was co-owner of The Meadow River Post, Rainelle, WV.
He was graduated from Montgomery High School in 1953 and was graduated cum laude from West Virginia Tech in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and history and government. He was chosen to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities his senior year at West Virginia Tech.
Following graduation from college, he immediately went to work as editor-publisher of The Montgomery Herald, Montgomery, WV, and later became publisher of The Fayette Tribune, Oak Hill, WV.
He also served in the West Virginia Air National Guard for six years from 1958 to 1964.
He was a longtime member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and choir member. He sang solos and shared testimony on many occasions and was devout in his faith, as was quite evident by the life he led.
Larry was known to be quick-witted, extraordinarily generous, genuinely kind, and a true gentleman. To know him was to absolutely love him. He opened his heart and his home to two little girls who cherish him beyond measure. Mr. Wonderful, as his wife calls him, was truly a prince among men and now among the saints. Faye, Rachel, and Maddy will carry him in their hearts forever. They love him deeply and dearly – always have and always will.
Expressions of sympathy and donations may be made to the Oak Hill Baptist Church, 613 Lundale Drive, Oak Hill, WV 25901. There will be no funeral or visitation. A memorial service may be held at a later date.
Holliday was enrolled in the Human Gift Registry for the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, Lewisburg, WV. Thank you to the Tyree Funeral Home staff, Hospice, and to all of the wonderful caregivers for their dedicated service.
