Ret Cpo John Allen Davis Rev.

June 21, 1927 — November 20, 2019

On the afternoon of November 20, 2019; distant clouds covering the blue sky and West Virginia mountain tops, parted way as John A. Davis, 92, was welcomed into the arms of his Heavenly father.

Born in Ansted, WV on June 21, 1927, he was the son of late Gordon and Mary Wood Davis.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 60 years, Doris June Worlledge Davis. Siblings Idona Paxson, Roberta Blackwell, Jenita Grant, and Frank Davis also preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister Pat Caldwell (Curt).

He grew up in the Oak Hill area and was drafted to the US Navy in 1945.  In 1970, as Chief Petty Officer, he retired after proudly serving his country for over 20 years. He went on to pursue his love for Christ, graduating from Boyce Seminary College in Louisville, Kentucky. John quickly began his mission as a Southern Baptist Church Planter.  He spread the word of God throughout his time as Reverend and contributed greatly to the communities of West Virginia. Up until his death, his faith continued through support of organizations so that the message of God may reach many.

His legacy will live on through his four surviving children, John Steven Davis (Debbie) of Hico, Dorma Ball (Tim) of Morgantown, Susie Vasquez of Sterling, VA, and Barbara McCoy (Jeff) of Natrona Heights, PA.

In the minds of his 7 surviving grandchildren, he was a true example of a family man and defines the meaning of hard work and good ol’ fashioned discipline.  While his 11 surviving great grandchildren did not experience the younger version of Pawpaw, the amount of love and affection they received from him matches what all friends and family felt and will miss.

John will always be remembered for the love he shared for his heavenly Father, family and service to our country. While he will be greatly missed, his family rests in faith that he is finally reunited with his loving wife.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be on Friday, November 29, 2019, at 1:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Garden, Ansted. Friends may call Friday, November 29, 2019, from 11:30 am until service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Grace in Him, Inc., Women's Ministries, PO Box 73, Epworth, GA 30541 or Daughter of the King of Ministries, Inc., 93 Sheridan Lane, Morgantown, WV 26508.
