Jesse Lee Athey , 83, of Beckley, WV formerly of Pax, WV passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021 at his home.
Born January 17, 1938 in Fairdale, WV he was the son of the late Lowery Layton and Icie Elizabeth Daniels Athey.
He was a retired coal mining electrician with 32 years service. Jesse was a member of the Long Branch United Methodist Church for over 42 years.
Brothers, Herman, Bill, Buster, Junior, Jimmy and Freddy; and sisters, Nellie, Nettie, Shirley and Patty preceded him in death.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years and best friend, Nancy Pat Smith Athey; sons Jeff Athey (Terri), John Athey, Joey Athey (Susan); grandchildren, Jesseca Dodd (Ross), Josie Showalter (Corey), Rebecca Duncan, Linsie Athey and fiancé Tyler Carr, David Snyder (Tiffanie), Donnie Snyder (Elizabeth), Mark Hughes, Kristen Hughes and Madi Chander (Brandon); fifteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Minnix, Deloris Sellards, Betty Manning, and Sylvia Honaker; numerous nieces, nephews; lifelong friends and a special family friend, David Loomis.
Services will be on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Pastor Mervin Sizemore and Pastor Evan Maynor officiating Burial will follow at Pax Community Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Those planning to attend should use proper COVID 19 precautions by wearing masks and observing social distancing of 6 feet.
