Freda Fonda Treadway Blackwell, age 90, of Oak Hill, WV, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Martinsville Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, VA.
Born on July 10, 1926 in Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late French and Aulta Legg Treadway.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow “Mickey” Blackwell and by two sons, Roger Blackwell and Woody Blackwell. Freda was the last surviving member of her family.
Freda worked for many years at Oak Hill Hospital as a Nurse Aide and then at 48 years of age went to school to get her LPN License.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and her family loved her dearly. Freda lived for her family, her family was everything to her which made her the richest woman on earth.
Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Linda Remillard (Dick) of New Hampshire, Susan Clagg (David) of Virginia, Patricia Keffer (Larry) and Debbie Thomas (Bob) all of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Jeff Remillard, Jason Remillard, Roger Blackwell, Paige Ward, Brooke Duncan, Samantha Rinehart, Kristine Reeves, Jessica Stacy, Michael Keffer, Annette Brown, Jennifer Ivey, Cindy Huckaby, Angela Lewis, Brian Backwell, Doug McClaskey, Jr. and Amber Hurd. She also leaves behind 34 great grandchildren.
A graveside committal service with burial to follow be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity with Dr. Randy James officiating. There will be not public visitation.
Those wishing to attend the service may meet at the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, by 12:40 PM on Tuesday. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
