Our precious father, Billy Ford Sutphin ,84 , of Hilltop, WV died on his birthday Thursday, February 14, 2019 at his home.
Valentine babies, he and his twin brother, Bobby, were born February 14, 1935 at Sanger, WV, sons of the late William McKinley and Vernie Lou Lafferty Sutphin.
Billy was a retired surface mine mechanic and a proud member of the UMWA for over 50 years. He was an active member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church having held several positions in the church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Beverly Jean Raines Sutphin; son, Roger Dale Sutphin; grandson, Jeremy Micheal Barker; brothers, Okley Sutphin, Reginald H. Sutphin, William A Sutphin., Bobby K. Sutphin and Delbert Sutphin; sisters, Edna Davis and Mildred Sutphin.
Those left to forever cherish his memory include three loving daughters, Debra Jean Barker and husband, Larry Wayne of Lochgelly, Laurie Sutphin Fuller and husband, Rev. Darrell Wayne of Hilltop and Traci Lynn Johnson and husband, Danny of Oak Hill; much loved granddaughter, Sarah Mae Barker and companion, Jeremy L. Skaggs; granddaughter of the heart Serenity Simms; sister-in-law, Janet Sutphin of Scarbro and by numerous cherished nieces and nephews. In addition, many of his children's friends, whom he loved, considered him a second father.
Friends may call on Monday, February 18, 2019 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, Services will begin at 1:00 Pastor Darrell Fuller and Pastor Bobby Pauley officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Gideons International, PO Box 429, Oak Hill WV 25901.
