Betty Evans Stevens

Betty Lou Evans Stevens , 84, of Oak Hill, WV went to be with her Lord on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Hilltop Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hilltop, WV.

Born June 11, 1932 at Kimberly, WV she was the daughter of the late Roy and Jeanette Kidd Evans.

Until her health declined, Mrs. Stevens was a very active member of the Summerlee Freewill Baptist Church - holding several offices, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and contributed much of her time baking and helping wherever she was needed.

She supported several organizations including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and home and foreign missionaries.

Her passions were numerous - she and Roy enjoyed working in their flowers and gardens, she loved to can the bounty of their labors; embroidery and quilting were two of her hobbies. Every grandchild got a handmade quilt from Mamaw. She was also an avid reader.

Her husband of 67 years, Roy Emmett Stevens, Sr. preceded her in death on June 18th of this year. A son; Roy Emmett Stevens, Jr.; infant daughter, Wanda Faye; brothers, Jimmy, Roy, Jr., and Ray; and sister, Thressa Parsons also preceded her..

Betty is survived by a devoted family which includes daughters, Linda Foster and husband, Alfred of Romney, and Brenda Foster and husband, Terry of Scarbro; son Johnny Stevens and wife, Debbie of Massillon, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Alfred IV, Melissa, Melinda, Terry Lee, Angie, Lori, Beverly, Roy III, and Kenny; twenty-three great-grandchildren; five great- great-grandchildren; brothers, Sylvester of PA and Dennis "Buck" Evans of Kimberly; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Funeral service will be on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill. Friends may call from 12:00 Noon until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
