Robert Adrian Kees , 85, of Oak Hill, WV went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, January 05, 2014 at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born May 28, 1928 at Ligon, KY he was the son of the late Kenneth and Mary Elizabeth Lucas Kees. Given the name Corky as a small child, he grew up on Paint Creek in Burnwell. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family being preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth B. Kees and Donald G. Kees in addition to his parents. He served his county in the United States Marine Corps from 1945 until 1949 and from 1950 until 1951, being a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He married Nancy Ann Rutledge on December 19, 1948 in Glasgow. The couple lived in North Carolina, Kentucky and Michigan before settling in Oak Hill in 1958. Bob was a member of the Salem Road Freewill Baptist Church. He was a loyal and faithful Christian who loved going to church and loved his church family. He was a long time member and past president of the Oak Hill Lions Club. The former owner/operator of Kees' Gulf Station, located at the current sight of Tyree Funeral Home, Bob retired from Sears after 25 years. He was one of Sears' top salesmen for many years and received many awards and commendations from the company. He also worked for Superior Furniture for more than 10 years before retiring. Survivors include wife of 65 years and the love of his life, Ann Kees; and three sons, Robert P. Kees and wife, Barbara of Cross Lanes, WV, Pastor Michael W. Kees and wife, Kathy of Oak Hill and Timothy S. Kees and wife, Lazenda of Oak Hill. In addition, he is survived by his ten grandchildren, Kim (Robert) Spradling of Raleigh, NC, Mandy (Barth) Lacy of Cross Lanes, Mary Beth Kees of Charleston, Adrienne Kees, Andy (Amber) Kees, J.T. Kees, Caleb Kees, Simeon Kees, Eli Kees and Olivia Kees all of Oak Hill. He was the proud great grandfather of Lindee, Wyatt and Shelby Lacy of Nitro and Rylee Beth Colon of Oak Hill. Also surviving is sister-in-law, Reba Kees of Plymouth, MI and close friend and "son" Dwayne Adkins of Scarbro. He will be sorely missed by his cat, Muffin. Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Salem Road Freewill Baptist Church in Oak Hill with Pastor Mike Kees and Rev. Allen Gallimore officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Andy Kees, J.T. Kees, Caleb Kees, Simeon Kees, Eli Kees, Barth Lacy and Robert Spradling will serve as pallbearers.
