Bill L. Withers

Bill L. Withers, age 79, of Fayetteville, WV, went to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, November 26, 2010, comfortably at his home with his family after a long illness. Born October 12, 1931, at Fairview, WV, he was the son of the late Gordon L. and Hazel Pearl Cowell Withers. Rev. Withers was a retired Baptist minister, was the Pastor Emeritus of the Fayetteville Baptist Church and was past president of the WV Baptist Historical Society. His pastorates for over 40 years in WV include the Harrisville Baptist Church, Harrisville, WV; Athens Baptist Church, Athens, WV; the Mount Hope Baptist Temple, Mount Hope, WV; First Baptist Church at New Martinsville, WV; the Crab Orchard Baptist Church, Crab Orchard, WV; the Madison Baptist Church, Madison, WV; and the Fayetteville Baptist Church, Fayetteville, WV. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert G. Withers and Richard E. Withers. Surviving are his dedicated and loving wife of 55 years, Cora Alice Osburn Withers of Fayetteville, WV; his son, David L. Withers and his wife Barbara of Huntington, WV; his three daughters; Rebecca Rector and her husband Timothy of Beckley, WV; Bethanie Wood and her husband Robert of Saginaw, MI; and Amanda Wood and her husband Gregory of Cool Ridge, WV. The Withers' ten grandchildren include David L. Withers, II, and his wife Nikki of Proctorville, Ohio; James Withers and his wife Amanda of Billings, Montana; Adrienne (Rector) Berry and her husband Timothy of Beckley, WV; Megan (Rector) Knight and her husband Bryan of Charlottesville, VA; Matthew Withers and his wife Brittani of Huntington, WV; Johnathan Wood and Cori Wood, both of Saginaw, MI; Nathaniel Wood of Cool Ridge, WV; Whitney (Wood) Williams and her husband Bradly of Shady Spring, WV; and Alaina Wood of Cool Ridge, WV. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Audrey Berry of Beckley, WV; Andrew Wood of Saginaw, MI; Haley Withers of Huntington, WV; and Dilynn Withers of Billings, MT. Funeral services of celebration will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 29, 2010, at the Fayetteville Baptist Church, 104 Ankrom Street, Fayetteville, WV, with Pastor Ron George, Jr., Pastor David Sneed and Pastor Harry Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, WV. Rev. and Mrs. Withers' ten grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the Fayetteville Baptist Church from 6-9 P.M. on Sunday, November 28, 2010, and also one hour prior to services on Monday. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to West Virginia Baptist Camp (at Cowen, WV) through and c/o WV Baptist Convention, P.O. Box 1019, Parkersburg, WV 26102.
