Fayette County Circuit Clerk and former Sheriff, Steven Wayne Kessler, 60, of Packs Branch, West Virginia died Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at his home.

He was the son of the late Robert Lee and Nora Eileen Powers Kessler.

Steve began his career in law enforcement at Mount Hope in 1976. He graduated from the West Virginia State Police Academy in 1981. He became a member of the Fayette County Sheriffs Department in 1981, and achieved the rank of Chief Deputy in 2002. He was elected to the position of Sheriff in 2008. After retirement from the Sheriffs Office He was elected to the position of Fayette County Circuit Clerk in 2016. He was a member of the Packs Branch Baptist Church and the Hawks Nest Bass Masters Club.

Steve is survived by his wife Regina Mitchell Kessler, Daughters Nicole L Kessler of Lexington, North Carolina, Jessi L Kessler and Sarah A. Kessler of Mount Hope, and son Jared Wayne Kessler of Beckley. Grandchildren Maddox A. Epperly, Nora E. Kessler, Peyton F. Kessler, and Emma G. Kessler. Aunt Rosie Williams and Uncle George Kessler both of Mount Hope, and by many special friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 29 at the Fayette County Soldier and Sailors Memorial Building in Fayetteville at 5:00 PM with Pastor Sam Vance Officiating. Eulogys by The Honorable Judge John W. Hatcher Jr., Prosecuting Attorney Larry E. Harrah II, and Family. Full Law Enforcement Honors will be conducted by Uniformed Deputy Sheriffs. He will be laid to rest on his farm at Packs Branch.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 29, at the Fayette County Soldier and Sailors Memorilal Building beginning at 12:00 PM till 4:00 PM

Pallbearers will be Sheriff Mike Fridley, Chief Deputy Rod Perdue II, Sgt. Shannon Morris, Sgt. Jess McMullen, Rick Brown, and Charles Bryant.
